# Basics

Format text, headings, links, quotes, and lists.

import ContentEditor from '@/components/editor/ContentEditor.astro';

## Format text

Select text in Visual mode to make it bold, italic, struck through, or inline code. Use the link control to add or change a destination. A link’s text remains editable in the document.

## Organize the document

Use headings for sections, bullet lists for related items, numbered lists for sequences, and quotes for quoted text. Horizontal rules and hard breaks are also preserved. Type `/` to find supported blocks, or edit the Markdown in Source.

## Before publishing

Review **important changes** and check [the guide](/docs/).

- Check the title
- Check the links

1. Save the draft
2. Review the diff

> Publication writes content to Git.
```
## Check the saved format
Switch to Source to inspect the Markdown. The generic profile covers these basics without framework-specific components. Raw HTML and custom MDX expressions stay source-only when a profile cannot safely render them. For checkboxes, see [Task List](/docs/editor/markdown/task-list/); for structured rows and columns, see [Table](/docs/editor/markdown/table/); for diagrams, math, and references, see [Mermaid](/docs/editor/markdown/mermaid/), [Math](/docs/editor/markdown/math/), and [Footnotes](/docs/editor/markdown/footnotes/).
## Edit in Visual
Try the same Markdown in the editor with the Generic profile, then switch to Source to inspect the saved syntax.
